To become a tutor with Rubicon Tutors, an Enhanced DBS check, which includes verification against the children's barred list, is a necessary requirement. This process, managed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly the CRB), allows individuals to prove they have no criminal convictions that would disqualify them from working with children. While different levels of DBS checks exist (basic, standard, and enhanced), Rubicon Tutors requires the enhanced level to ensure the highest standards of safeguarding. This check reveals all spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, final warnings, and any relevant police information, including barred list status.
Rubicon Tutors can facilitate the Enhanced DBS check for registered tutors. The government fee is £38, with an additional £4 umbrella body fee, totaling £42. Rubicon Tutors does not profit from this service. To begin, you'll need to provide copies of at least three identity documents, one being a valid Driving Licence or Passport, and another showing your current address (e.g., recent utility bill or bank statement, no older than 3 months). These can be uploaded through our portal.
Our current umbrella body for DBS applications is Care Check, and the process typically takes one to two weeks. Rubicon Tutors will notify you upon receipt of your documents and again when the application is complete. The official blue DBS certificate will then be sent to your verified address. Once you upload a copy of your Enhanced DBS certificate (including the children's barred list check) to your Rubicon Tutors account in the verification section, your profile will be activated and visible in search results, clearly indicating your DBS verification to parents and students.
